Popular Ice Cream Brand Recalls Flavor in 16 States, Including Alabama, Over Allergy Risk
For many Southerners, opening a tub of Blue Bell Ice Cream feels like scooping out a little piece of tradition. But this week, the beloved brand issued a recall that has parents double-checking freezer shelves and allergy sufferers on high alert.

On Friday, Blue Bell announced it was pulling back a specific product after a packaging mix-up created a serious allergy risk. The company revealed that half-gallon cartons labeled as Chocolate Chip Cookie Dough actually contained Moo-llennium Crunch Ice Cream—a flavor that includes almonds, walnuts, and pecans.
That detail may sound minor, but for anyone with nut allergies, it could be life-threatening. Blue Bell said the issue came to light when an employee noticed the mislabeled cartons while restocking a store.
The recall impacts retail stores across 16 states, including Alabama,
where Blue Bell is practically a household name. Customers are urged to check their freezers immediately. If you spot a half-gallon container of Chocolate Chip Cookie Dough with a Moo-llennium Crunch lid, you should not eat it.
“People who have an allergy or severe sensitivity to almonds, walnuts, and pecans run the risk of a serious or life-threatening allergic reaction if they consume these products,” the company said in its official announcement.
For most, ice cream is a simple indulgence. However, a minor error in packaging may make dessert into a medical emergency for families dealing with food allergies.
For a complete refund, Blue Bell has encouraged consumers to return the recalled ice cream to the store where they bought it. In the meanwhile, the event is a sobering reminder that even the most reputable companies can make mistakes and that being vigilant when reading labels is not only a precaution but also a requirement.
