Olivia Nuzzi, New York Magazine ‘part ways’ over ‘personal relationship’ with RFK Jr.

Olivia Nuzzi and New York Magazine have officially parted ways following her acknowledgment of a “personal relationship” with Robert F. Kennedy Jr., a subject of her reporting relevant to the 2024 campaign. After this revelation, Nuzzi was placed on temporary leave.

On Monday, New York Magazine, owned by Vox Media, announced it had hired the law firm Davis Wright Tremaine to review her work during the campaign. They concluded, consistent with the magazine’s internal review, that there were no inaccuracies or evidence of bias. However, both parties agreed it was best to separate. The magazine praised Nuzzi as a uniquely talented writer and expressed pride in her nearly eight years as their Washington Correspondent.

Nuzzi had previously written a profile of RFK Jr., who was running as a third-party presidential candidate, published in November 2023. Titled “The Mind-Bending Politics of RFK Jr.’s Spoiler Campaign,” the piece explored his complex political positioning. Nuzzi’s relationship with RFK Jr. reportedly began after the publication of that article.

In July 2024, she also wrote an article titled “The Conspiracy of Silence to Protect Joe Biden,” which highlighted concerns from Democratic officials about the president. Later that month, Biden ended his reelection campaign, paving the way for Kamala Harris as the Democratic nominee.

In a statement last month, New York Magazine expressed that had they been aware of Nuzzi’s relationship with RFK Jr., she would not have continued covering the campaign and acknowledged a violation of reader trust.

Ari Wilkenfeld, Nuzzi’s attorney, stated that she was gratified by the findings of both investigations, affirming the integrity of her reporting. He highlighted her contributions to New York Magazine over the years and mentioned her excitement for the next chapter of her career.
