Nearly 600 Skaters to Take Center Ice at National Showcase
The 2024 National Showcase is set to light up San Jose, California, from August 5-10, with nearly 600 athletes gearing up for an exciting week of competition.
Hosted for the first time by the Peninsula Figure Skating Club at Sharks Ice, this year’s event will feature skaters competing across 13 categories, ranging from preliminary to masters levels. Categories include emotional performance, choreographic artistry, lyrical pop, character performance, comedic impressions, duet-trios, open inflatables, mini production ensemble, production ensemble, and the new theme event.
The theme event, making its debut this year, will spotlight music made famous by pop stars, chosen in celebration of the National Showcase’s California location.
Top performers in each level from the singles categories and the duet-trio category will secure spots in one of six Parade of Champions: senior, junior, adult, founders (preliminary, pre-juvenile, and juvenile), duet-trio, and the theme event.
Among the returning champions, Ashlyn Olson will aim for her third consecutive senior Parade of Champions title and a place on the Richard Dwyer Trophy, awarded to the senior Parade of Champions victor.
Ashlee Pantano, who claimed the adult Parade of Champions title last year, will also return. Pantano, along with Olson, won gold in the duet-trio Parade of Champions event last season.
Lexi Galuszka will be back to defend her junior crown, competing for her second gold medal and aiming for her third podium finish in the junior Parade of Champions.
The National Showcase combines artistry and theatricality with figure skating, using props and costumes to deliver memorable and engaging performances.
