Luisa Blanco Secures Spot in Paris Olympics All-Around Final
In a remarkable debut at the Paris 2024 Olympics, former Alabama gymnast Luisa Blanco has qualified for the all-around gymnastics final. Blanco’s impressive performance on Sunday afternoon earned her an all-around score of 51.698, securing her place among the world's top artistic gymnasts for the final event on August 1.
Blanco’s achievement is historic, as she becomes the first-ever gymnast to represent Colombia in the women's all-around final at the Olympics. Competing for her parents' home country, Blanco's journey to Paris follows an illustrious collegiate career with the Alabama Crimson Tide.
Since her arrival in Tuscaloosa in 2020, Blanco quickly established herself as a standout performer in the SEC conference, earning a spot on the SEC’s All-Freshman team. Her exceptional talent and dedication led to a stellar career, highlighted by three SEC titles in 2021 across all-around, uneven bars, balance beam, and vault events. That same year, she was honored as the SEC’s Gymnast of the Year and crowned NCAA champion on the balance beam.
Before graduating, Blanco's accolades included being a three-time All-SEC honoree and a two-time first-team All-American for all-around. Now, as she transitions from college athletics to the global stage, Blanco is set to showcase her skills and represent Colombia with pride at the Paris Olympics.
