Is It Still Possible to Fly Without a STAR ID in Alabama? The STAR ID deadline is quickly approaching.
Time is running out, travelers in Alabama! You will need a STAR ID or another REAL ID-compliant form of identification (such as a passport) in order to board domestic flights in the United States beginning May 7, 2025.

STAR ID: What Is It?
Secure, Trusted, and Reliable are what the STAR in STAR ID stands for. A gold star in the corner indicates that it satisfies federal security requirements under the REAL ID Act, even though it otherwise looks like a typical driver's license.
It is not limited to flying. Additionally, in order to enter military installations or federal facilities, you must have a STAR ID or its equivalent.
Is It Necessary to Fly?
Yes, but only if you have another recognized form of identification, such as a current military ID or U.S. passport. You will not be able to pass TSA without one.
