These crisp, cool, and now problematic cukes were sold in several states between April 29 and May 19, a period of time that suddenly has greater significance than a straightforward sell-by date.

According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), Alabama has reported at least one or two confirmed cases, while the outbreak has affected more than 15 states. Nine of the 26 individuals who have become ill have needed to be admitted to the hospital.
