In the Alabama attorney general race, Jay Mitchell receives a significant endorsement.

Jay Mitchell, a former justice of the state Supreme Court, recently won a significant political victory in the highly anticipated Republican primary for the position of attorney general of Alabama.

In the Alabama attorney general race, Jay Mitchell receives a significant endorsement.

As the race heats up, Mitchell's campaign gained new steam on Monday when Progress PAC, the Business Council of Alabama's (BCA) powerful political action committee, formally backed his candidacy.

Mitchell, who resigned from the Alabama Supreme Court earlier this year to run for attorney general, is up against two Republican opponents: Katherine Robertson, the current attorney general's chief counsel, and Pamela Casey, the district attorney for Blount County.

"A Tested Supporter of Alabama's Job Creators"

In a statement of support, Helena Duncan, President and CEO of the BCA, emphasized Mitchell's record: "Jay Mitchell has continuously shown a profound comprehension of the rule of law. He has demonstrated himself to be a staunch supporter of the free market system and an advocate of Alabama's job creators.

Having supported Mitchell's two previous bids for Alabama's top court, the BCA has a history with him. Their ongoing backing shows that they have faith in his abilities to move from judicial office to the state's top law enforcement position.

"Jay and I have collaborated extensively throughout the years," Duncan stated. "And we have faith in his leadership skills as our next Attorney General."

A Contest Packed with Conservative Firepower

Although Mitchell's candidacy is strengthened by the support, it is important to remember that Progress PAC did not overlook his rivals. Casey and Robertson were praised by Chairman Gary Smith, who described them as "excellent public servants" with strong conservative backgrounds.

Smith stated, "All three candidates bring to the table exceptional talent, conservative credentials, and solid service records."

This prepares the foundation for a primary that might focus more on ground game, leadership style, and endorsements than ideological disagreements.

The Significance of This Endorsement

Elections are not usually decided by endorsements, but in Alabama politics, backing from corporate PACs like Progress PAC can indicate widespread establishment support and have significant financial benefits.

Mitchell will probably use this endorsement to further solidify his appeal to conservatives who support business and those who respect judicial expertise.

The Republican primary appears to be one of Alabama's most important elections in 2025, with millions already streaming into campaign war chests and contentious subjects like criminal justice reform and access to IVF circling in the background.
