The Philadelphia Eagles have released former Auburn tight end C.J. Uzomah, the team announced on Wednesday.

Uzomah was let go by the New York Jets on March 13 after failing a physical examination, despite having one year left on his three-year, $24 million contract. He joined the Eagles on a one-year deal on April 11.

During Philadelphia’s two preseason games, Uzomah played 30 offensive snaps and had one reception for 3 yards.

The Eagles still have six tight ends on their roster for the preseason. Dallas Goedert, the starter, did not play in the preseason. Other tight ends, E.J. Jenkins with 71 snaps and Kevin Foelsch with 52 snaps, played more than Uzomah.

Uzomah ended the 2023 season on injured reserve after a knee injury in a game against the Atlanta Falcons on December 3. He missed the final five games of the season.

In 2023, Uzomah had eight receptions for 58 yards and one touchdown over 12 games, including eight starts. He played 239 offensive snaps and 148 special-teams plays.

Uzomah was drafted by the Cincinnati Bengals in 2015 from Auburn. Over four college seasons, he made 29 receptions for 435 yards and seven touchdowns.

In his first six NFL seasons with the Bengals, Uzomah had 114 receptions for 1,098 yards and eight touchdowns in 63 regular-season games and one playoff game.

After missing most of the 2020 season due to an Achilles injury, Uzomah bounced back in 2021 with 49 receptions for 493 yards and five touchdowns. He helped the Bengals reach Super Bowl LVI, where they lost to the Los Angeles Rams 23-20.

Uzomah also had a solid postseason in 2021, with 15 receptions for 146 yards and one touchdown. Despite a knee injury in the AFC Championship Game, he played in the Super Bowl.

The Jets signed Uzomah after the 2021 season. In his first year with them, he recorded 21 receptions for 232 yards and two touchdowns.
