FBI and Police Investigate Maggots Found in Democratic Convention Breakfast
Chicago police and the FBI are investigating an incident where maggots were found in a Democratic convention breakfast buffet. Authorities are looking into whether this was a deliberate act.
Chicago police and the FBI are looking into an incident where maggots were discovered in a breakfast buffet for delegates at the Democratic National Convention on Wednesday. Reports say that a few women were seen entering the Fairmont Hotel around 6:45 a.m. and placing "unknown objects" on the food tables before leaving.
It's unclear if anyone has been arrested. Emergency responders treated one person at the scene, but it's not clear if they were sick or injured.
The breakfast for delegates, held at different hotels across Chicago, runs from 7 a.m. to 9:30 a.m. each day.
Indiana delegate Karen Tallian told news that two women had hidden in the bathroom and then threw maggots into the breakfast buffet.
A Fairmont Hotel spokesperson, Haley Robles, said that a group of people caused a disruption at the DNC breakfast event. She added that the hotel staff quickly cleaned and sanitized the area, maintaining high standards of food safety and cleanliness.
Some attendees think the incident might be a protest. Last month, similar actions occurred at the Watergate Hotel in Washington, D.C., where maggots were used in a protest related to the war in Gaza.
Indiana Democratic Party spokesperson Sam Barloga emphasized that the safety of delegates is a top priority. He condemned the incident as an unacceptable attack on democracy and thanked the security team for their quick response.
