An argument at an overnight birthday party ended in gunshots and left a woman with serious injuries in Birmingham.
North Precinct officers were dispatched at 5 a.m. Sunday to a report of a person shot at an apartment building in the 1900 block of 18th Place North.
Sgt. LaQuitta Wade said the preliminary investigation suggests a fight broke out between the woman and a man during the birthday gathering.
The suspect retrieved a gun and shot the victim, Wade said.
The woman is hospitalized with life-threatening injuries. The suspect is in custody.
