DOGE's claim of a $465,000 contract cancellation was unknown to Alabama Military Base.
Elon Musk’s Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) claims a $465,000 contract at Maxwell Air Force Base was canceled, but base officials are unaware of it. Concerns arise over DOGE's cost-cutting claims and accuracy in federal contract cancellations.

A $465,000 Department of Defense landscaping contract at Maxwell Air Force Base was canceled, according to Elon Musk's Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE). But according to base officials, they are unaware of this cancellation.
Controversial Allegations
DOGE announced the termination of the contract for horticulture and landscape design services on X on Monday. This was part of 44 cancellations totaling $640 million in national savings. A spokeswoman with Maxwell Air Force Base, however, informed AL.com that they were not aware of the cancellation.
Confusing Leases and Contracts
In the past, DOGE has asserted lease terminations that were subsequently denied by agencies. In contrast to DOGE's claims, Congressman Robert Aderholt's office verified that the Social Security offices in Jasper and Cullman are still open. The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers' Dustin Gautney stated that without particular information, the Corps is unable to verify DOGE's assertion.
DOGE's Savings Estimates Raise Concerns
According to an NPR study, DOGE's claimed savings of $115 billion might be overstated, as it frequently lists the maximum contract value while leaving out money that has already been spent. The veracity of these accusations has been questioned by federal officials.
Agencies want to know the true impact of these cancellations because DOGE's purported cost-cutting strategies are becoming increasingly inconsistent
