Detroit Lions Face Injuries to Alabama Alumni During Training Camp
Detroit Lions' Jahmyr Gibbs and Terrion Arnold face injuries at training camp. Coach Dan Campbell reassures fans as the team prepares for upcoming preseason games.
The Detroit Lions are navigating a challenging training camp after running back Jahmyr Gibbs and cornerback Terrion Arnold were sidelined by injuries. Coach Dan Campbell has reassured fans, stating that both players are expected to recover fully.
Gibbs, who was drafted 12th overall in 2023, and Arnold, selected 24th in 2024, were both top picks from Alabama. Reports suggest that Gibbs is dealing with a hamstring injury, while Arnold has a pectoral issue. Despite the lack of mandatory injury disclosures during the preseason, Campbell remains optimistic.
"My phone has been blowing up with concerns about Gibbs and Arnold,” Campbell shared on WXYT-FM’s “Costa and Jansen with Heather.” “I understand the worry, but I’m confident we’ll manage just fine.”
Gibbs, a standout rookie who made the Pro Bowl last season, contributed significantly with 945 rushing yards, 10 touchdowns, and 316 receiving yards. He missed the Lions' preseason opener but played a key role in their journey to the NFC Championship Game.
Arnold started in Detroit’s 14-3 preseason loss to the New York Giants but didn’t make any notable plays. Fellow rookie cornerback Ennis Rakestraw, drafted in the second round from Missouri, also faced an injury at practice.
Additionally, former Auburn player Carlton Davis is absent due to a hamstring injury. Campbell noted, “Carlton’s dealing with a hamstring issue, but he’ll be okay.”
The Lions are set to continue their preseason against the Kansas City Chiefs on Saturday at Arrowhead Stadium, with the game broadcasted on NFL Network. Detroit will kick off its regular season on September 8th with a home game against the Los Angeles Rams.
