Cotton State Chronicle Highlights Alabama Country Store as a Southern Gem

Alabama proudly hosts one of "The 10 Most Charming Country Stores in the South," as celebrated by readers of Cotton State Chronicle.

In a recent feature on CottonStateChronicle.com, the top 10 list emerged from "an impromptu poll of our readers." While mega-chains like Buc-ee’s and Cracker Barrel received votes, they were excluded to focus on purely local favorites.

Among these beloved locales, Priester’s Pecans in Fort Deposit stands as the lone Alabama representative, familiar to many travelers along I-65. "Don't mistake this popular road trip pitstop for just a place to stock up on the South’s favorite nut," Cotton State Chronicle advises. "This is the kind of place where you walk in expecting to pick up a sleeve of cinnamon-roasted pecans and leave with an entire basket full of treats."

Priester’s Pecans has a rich history, tracing its origins to 1935 when Lee C. "L.C." Priester started the business in a Texaco station. Now in its fourth generation, it remains a cherished family enterprise.

Other notable mentions on the list include Pratt’s Country Store in Knoxville, Tenn.; Betty’s Country Store in Helen, Ga.; and Stripling’s General Store, known for its sausage specialties, in Bogart and Cordele, Ga.
