Bo Nix Shines as One of NFL’s Fastest Players in Week 1

Denver Broncos quarterback Bo Nix showcased his speed in Week 1, becoming one of the NFL’s fastest players. Learn how his performance is setting the stage for a big season ahead.

Bo Nix Shines as One of NFL’s Fastest Players in Week 1

During the Denver Broncos' first game of the season against the Seattle Seahawks, rookie quarterback Bo Nix made a big play. With under five minutes left, Nix scrambled for 23 yards. A few passes later, he scored his first NFL touchdown, though the Broncos still lost 26-20.

What surprised many was Nix’s speed on that run. He reached 20.05 mph, making him the second-fastest player in the NFL in Week 1. The only player faster was Buffalo Bills running back James Cook, who hit 20.99 mph.

Nix commented on his speed, saying, "I think it’s a strength if used at the right times." He also credited his offseason training for his athletic performance, noting that being a mobile quarterback can challenge defenses.

Next Challenge: Pittsburgh Steelers

In his second game, Nix will face a tough challenge against the Pittsburgh Steelers. The Steelers have one of the best defenses, led by outside linebacker T.J. Watt, who is known for his high sack count. Pittsburgh’s coach, Mike Tomlin, has a strong record against rookie quarterbacks.

Reflecting on the upcoming match, Nix said, “It’s definitely a challenge. They’ve been a great defense for a long time, and I have a lot of respect for them.”

In his first NFL game, Nix completed 26 out of 42 passes for 138 yards, ran five times for 35 yards, and scored a touchdown. Although he didn’t throw any touchdowns, he learned a lot from the experience, saying, "It was a great game of learning. There were opportunities we just need to capitalize on."

Looking Ahead

Nix won the starting quarterback role for the Broncos after competing against Jarrett Stidham and Zach Wilson. He wasn’t surprised by the team’s efficient performance, even when facing tough crowd noise in Seattle. Now, Nix is eager for his first home game, saying, "I’m excited not to travel this week. It’s going to be a good home-opener."

The Broncos will face the Steelers on Sunday at 3:05 p.m. CDT at Empower Field at Mile High in Denver.
