A 36-year-old woman from east Alabama lost her life during a domestic argument, and the suspect is now in jail.

The tragic incident took place on Saturday on Hughes Street, as confirmed by Piedmont Police Chief Nathan Johnson.

The woman who died has been identified as Ashley Marie Leonard. She was 36 years old.

The suspect, Damien Michael Bailey, age 42, has been charged with murder. He is currently in the Calhoun County Jail without bond.

Chief Johnson stated that Leonard was shot during an argument with Bailey. No further details have been shared about the incident.

“Our thoughts and prayers are with the Leonard family and friends during this difficult time as they grieve for their loved one,” the police chief said.

Ashley Leonard worked as a certified nursing assistant (CNA) at the Cherokee County Health & Rehabilitation Center.

The healthcare center shared a heartfelt tribute to Ashley on Facebook, stating, "To care for those who once cared for us is a great honor. Ashley had a true passion for caregiving. She touched many lives, and our residents and staff will deeply miss her."

The facility will hold a song and prayer service in her memory on Tuesday at 9 a.m. in the lobby.
