Alabama Alum Ian Sams Joins Kamala Harris Campaign as Senior National Spokesperson
University of Alabama alum Ian Sams steps into a major role as senior national spokesperson for Vice President Kamala Harris's 2024 presidential campaign.
A University of Alabama graduate, Ian Sams, has been appointed to a prominent role in Vice President Kamala Harris's presidential campaign, marking a significant step in his political career.
Ian Sams, who holds a Bachelor of Arts in Political Science from the University of Alabama, has been named senior national spokesperson and senior adviser for rapid response for Harris’s campaign, according to a report from the Washington Post.
Expressing his excitement, Sams took to X (formerly known as Twitter) on Saturday to share the news. "Thrilled to join the incredible team at @KamalaHQ for the final push of this campaign," Sams wrote. "It's an honor to once again work with @KamalaHarris as her spokesperson, and in 80 days, we will make history by electing her as the next President of the United States."
Before this role, Sams served as a spokesperson for oversight and investigations under the Biden administration. His connection with Harris is not new; he was her national press secretary during her 2020 presidential campaign.
In his new position, Sams will be a key figure in the Harris campaign, appearing on television, shaping the campaign’s messaging, and defending Harris’s record against critiques.
Ian Sams isn’t the only University of Alabama graduate making waves in Washington, D.C. Kaitlan Collins, a Prattville native and 2014 UA graduate, became one of the youngest anchors in CNN’s history at the age of 29. Collins currently hosts "The Source" on CNN, where she conducts interviews with U.S. presidential candidates and other influential political figures.
