ABC News Political Director Rick Klein cautioned on Friday that Democrats are losing their advantage in early voting as Republicans gain momentum in key battleground states ahead of Election Day.
During the 2024 campaign, GOP leaders, including former President Donald Trump, have adopted the Democrats’ past strategy of encouraging early voter turnout. On "ABC News 4," Klein highlighted that while pollsters may still be uncertain about voter preferences, Republicans in Nevada are outperforming Democrats’ 2020 numbers, currently leading by four points.
“In Nevada, Democrats had a significant edge in early voting four years ago, but that has now flipped. They built a firewall before Election Day back then, and that is gone,” Klein noted. “The key question is whether these are just voters who would have shown up on Election Day now voting early.”
Klein also pointed out that while Republicans aren’t leading in early voting in Pennsylvania, they have reduced the gap compared to four years ago, now trailing by only “three or four hundred thousand votes overall.”
