AHSAA Flag Football: Boaz Defeats John Carroll, Secures Spot in Next Week’s Semifinals
The AHSAA flag football landscape is officially locked in for next week’s semifinal showdowns after Boaz’s impressive 25–12 victory over John Carroll on Thursday night. With that win, the Pirates completed the final piece of the playoff puzzle and they did it with style, grit, and a comeback that energized the home crowd.
Ranked No. 5 in the state, Boaz will now host top-ranked Moody in a Class 1A/5A semifinal on Wednesday at 6 p.m. The stakes couldn’t be higher: the winner will punch their ticket to the AHSAA Super 7 Championships on Dec. 3 at Birmingham’s Progressive Stadium, kicking off the opening day of the state title festivities.
The other semifinal matchups are set for Tuesday at 6 p.m., but Thursday night belonged entirely to Boaz and more specifically, to sophomore quarterback Peyton Hall, who delivered a performance that felt ripped from a highlight reel.
Despite falling behind 12–0 early in the game, the Pirates refused to wilt.Rather, they flipped the script and improved their season record to an incredible 14-1 by unleashing a burst of 25 unanswered points. Hall was undeniably the heartbeat of the comeback, scoring all four touchdowns for Boaz. Two of those came in the second quarter, right after John Carroll built on its initial 6–0 lead momentum that seemed dangerous until Hall took control.
With confidence, resilience, and a roster that has fully embraced its late-season swagger, Boaz now heads into semifinal week with something powerful: belief.
If their comeback against John Carroll was any indication, the Pirates might just be peaking at the perfect moment.
