Former Alabama Quarterback Eli Holstein to Start for Pittsburgh in Season Opener
Former Alabama quarterback Eli Holstein named starter for Pittsburgh Panthers in ACC season opener against Kent State.
Eli Holstein, a former Alabama quarterback, has been named the starter for Pittsburgh’s season opener against Kent State this Saturday, as announced by Panthers head coach Pat Narduzzi on Thursday.
Holstein, originally from Louisiana, was a four-star recruit in Alabama's 2023 recruiting class. He did not play in any games last season, opting instead to redshirt before transferring to Pittsburgh.
He is one of two freshman quarterbacks who transferred from Alabama after the 2023 season. The other, Julian Sayin, a five-star recruit, transferred to Ohio State.
Coach Pat Narduzzi mentioned earlier this week that both Holstein and junior quarterback Nate Yarnell will play in Saturday’s game. Last season, Pittsburgh rotated three quarterbacks: Yarnell, Christian Veilleux (who transferred to Georgia State), and Phil Jurkovec, who has since graduated.
The game between Pittsburgh and Kent State is scheduled for 11 a.m. this Saturday and will be broadcast on ESPNU.
