Vote for the Top Huntsville Football Player of Week 1: Standout Performances from North Alabama

Fans can now vote for their favorite player from last Friday's north Alabama high school football games. Coaches are encouraged to submit player stats after Friday games or nominate players by Saturday noon.

Only coaches or official team statisticians can make nominations, which should be emailed to tashworth@news.

Voting is open until Wednesday evening, and the winner will be announced on Thursday on news.

Here are the nominees from Week 1:

  • Johnny Jackson, Bob Jones: Jackson had an outstanding game in Thursday's 48-12 win over Cullman. He completed 22 of 30 passes for 395 yards and five touchdowns. He also had five carries for 61 yards and a rushing touchdown.

  • Drew Puccio, Arab: Puccio threw for 111 yards and two touchdowns in Arab’s 35-0 win over Albertville. He also ran for 100 yards and two touchdowns on 11 carries.

  • J.L. Davis, Austin: Davis led Austin to a thrilling 35-34 double-overtime win over Hartselle with five total touchdowns—three passing and two rushing. He finished with 175 passing yards and 49 rushing yards.

  • Tyler Pierce, Boaz: Pierce passed for 244 yards and five touchdowns in Boaz’s 47-7 victory over Madison Academy. This performance made him Boaz’s all-time leader in career passing yards, surpassing the previous record with a total of 4,877 yards.

  • Savarius Evans, Decatur Heritage: Evans was unstoppable, rushing for 274 yards and five touchdowns in Decatur Heritage’s 42-22 win over Sheffield.

  • Evan McClure, Westminster Christian: McClure contributed four touchdowns in Westminster Christian’s 42-20 win over East Limestone. He rushed for 152 yards and three touchdowns and also had 52 receiving yards and a touchdown.

  • Seth Leeburn, Grissom: Leeburn had a strong game in Grissom’s 41-6 win over Lee-Huntsville. He completed 11 of 15 passes for 140 yards and two touchdowns and also ran for 79 yards and a touchdown.

  • Dawson Cambron, New Hope: Cambron stood out as a top receiver with 383 receiving yards and four touchdowns in New Hope’s record-breaking 76-71 loss to Ohatchee.

  • Street Smith, Guntersville: Smith was nearly flawless in Guntersville’s 35-13 win over Southside-Gadsden. He completed 16 of 18 passes for 215 yards and a touchdown and ran for 25 yards on three carries.

  • Neil Erskine, Huntsville: Erskine was a defensive star in Huntsville’s 27-0 shutout of Hazel Green. He had four pass breakups and three tackles (one solo).

  • Lucas Terry, New Hope: Terry led New Hope’s offense to a record-breaking night, completing 27 of 33 passes for 490 yards and five touchdowns in a 76-71 loss to Ohatchee.

  • Trey Greenwell, Decatur: Greenwell excelled defensively for Decatur in their 33-19 loss to Buckhorn. He had a team-high 15 tackles, a pick-six, and a punt return for a touchdown.
