A former Homewood City Councilman has pleaded guilty to a child sex charge involving a young boy.
Vance Allen Moody, 60, pleaded guilty Monday to first-degree sexual abuse, which is a Class C felony.
Under the plea agreement before Jefferson County Circuit Court Judge Alaric May, Moody received a 10-year suspended sentence and four years of supervised probation.
He is now a registered sex offender.
Moody was represented by attorneys Tommy Spina and Leslie Schiffman Moore. Jefferson County Deputy District Attorney Dain Stewart prosecuted.
“The disposition was best for all parties involved in light of all facts and circumstances,’' Spina said.
Moody was initially arrested in 2019 after Homewood police obtained warrants against him for first-degree sex abuse and sex abuse of a child under the age of 12. The victim was an 11-year-old boy.
The latter charge was dismissed under the plea agreement.
Moody was elected to the Homewood City Council in 2008. He did not seek re-election for the 2016-2020 term.
He had served as a youth athletics coach and was a member of the Homewood Park Board and the Homewood City Schools Foundation.
