Nick Saban's Tough Pick for Alabama-Georgia Game: Rece Davis Explains
Nick Saban, now a College Gameday analyst, faces a difficult decision on whether to pick Alabama or Georgia for the upcoming game. Rece Davis shares insights on the process.
Nick Saban, the legendary Alabama football coach turned ESPN College Gameday analyst, is in a tricky spot. This Saturday, he has to decide whether to support his former team, Alabama, or choose Georgia, the team favored to win.
Rece Davis, the host of College Gameday, shared some insights on how Saban might handle this decision. Talking to reporters in Tuscaloosa on Friday, Davis explained that Saban is in a "no-win situation" when it comes to picking a side for this highly anticipated matchup.
Davis said, "I don’t ask him who he’s going to pick because he should just choose who he honestly thinks will win." He went on to explain that Saban could easily pick Alabama to please the crowd, but if he wants to be completely objective, picking Georgia might make more sense.
Saban retired as Alabama’s head coach in January this year and has since joined ESPN’s College Gameday as an analyst. This Saturday will be the first time the show returns to Tuscaloosa, and Saban will appear on set at Denny Chimes. His wife, Terry, will join him as this week’s guest picker.
College Gameday starts at 8 a.m. CT on Saturday and runs for three hours. The picks panel, where Saban will reveal his choice, happens toward the end of the show.
Alabama and Georgia are set to play at 6:30 p.m. CT on Saturday at Bryant-Denny Stadium, with the game airing on ABC.
Rece Davis doesn’t expect Saban to hold back when sharing his thoughts. “He’s always been straightforward, so I’m sure he’ll just say what he believes and let things happen as they may,” said Davis.
