Update: Prepare for Severe Thunderstorms and Damaging Winds in Calhoun County on Friday
A severe thunderstorm warning has been updated by the National Weather Service for Calhoun County, in effect until 2:30 p.m. on Friday. The update came at 2:22 p.m., warning residents to brace for wind gusts reaching up to 60 mph.
At 2:21 p.m., a severe thunderstorm was detected over Alexandria, near Saks, moving southeast at 25 mph. The storm is expected to cause damage to roofs, siding, and trees.
Areas affected by this warning include Jacksonville, Saks, Glencoe, Weaver, Ohatchee, Alexandria, Jacksonville State University, Neely Henry Lake, Southside, Sulphur Springs, and Wellington.
The National Weather Service advises, "For your protection, move to an interior room on the lowest floor of a building."
