A serious traffic accident occurred on Interstate 65 in Cullman County, Alabama, on Saturday afternoon, resulting in one death and two injuries.
21-year-old Mirra Bride Dot Popee Chafin died after her 2007 Ford Mustang veered off the road, struck a ditch, and flipped over. Another passenger in the car, Lara A. Phillips, was injured and airlifted to UAB Hospital in Birmingham. Chafin was pronounced dead at the scene.
Following the crash, the abandoned Mustang rolled back onto the highway and was struck by a 2014 Toyota Sienna driven by Suzanne E. Woods, 56. Woods was also injured and taken to UAB Hospital.
Neither Chafin nor Phillips, who was 23, were wearing seatbelts and were thrown from the vehicle, according to state troopers.
The accident happened around 6:30 p.m. on Saturday, about seven miles south of Dodge City, near mile marker 293 on Interstate 65.
The Alabama Law Enforcement Agency is still investigating the incident.
