Patrick Surtain II Praises Bo Nix’s Winning Ability as Broncos' New Starting QB
Denver cornerback Patrick Surtain II praises Bo Nix for his ability to win games and his strong performance in training. Nix, the Broncos’ new starting quarterback, has impressed with his skills and leadership, as he prepares for the season opener against the Seattle Seahawks.
Patrick Surtain II, a cornerback for the Denver Broncos, first faced quarterback Bo Nix during the 2019 Iron Bowl. At that time, Nix, a freshman for Auburn, led his team to a 48-45 victory over Alabama. He threw for 173 yards, ran for another 44 yards, and scored two touchdowns.
Surtain, who was part of the Alabama defense in that game, still remembers the tough matchup. “I’m still a bit salty about that game,” he admitted. “It was a hard-fought battle. Bo and I went head-to-head in college, and I’ve seen his versatility.”
According to Surtain, Nix is skilled at both passing and running the ball, but what stands out most is his ability to win games. Surtain is eager to see Nix in action when the Broncos play their season opener against the Seattle Seahawks on September 8.
Nix has been named the Broncos' starting quarterback for the season after competing against Jarrett Stidham and Zach Wilson. Denver coach Sean Payton praised Nix for his command of the offense and his confidence. “He’s been impressive every day, building confidence with the team,” Surtain said.
Offensive coordinator Joe Lombardi highlighted Nix’s performance, noting his ability to handle difficult situations and his impressive arm talent. “Nix has shown us exactly what we hoped for,” Lombardi said.
Nix, who played under his father, Patrick Nix, at Pinson Valley High School, is known for his quick learning and passion for football. Lombardi believes the “coach’s kid” stereotype fits Nix perfectly, describing him as a fast learner who improves with each play.
Although Nix will not play in the Broncos' final preseason game against the Arizona Cardinals, he is expected to start the regular season strong. “The team is ready for success,” Surtain said. “With Bo leading, we’re heading in the right direction. I’m excited to see him play on Sunday.”
