New registrar quickly adjusts after major career change

After former registrar Robert Wise retired last school year, the school appointed Jean Hsu, a tech-savvy parent of two SHS graduates, to fill the role. Hsu arrives with a background in analog power management integrated circuit design.

In her new position, Hsu has quickly taken on a range of tasks, including managing class and new student enrollment, processing class transfers and transcript requests, and providing data support to staff.

Hsu earned a Master of Science in Electrical Engineering from UC Berkeley and spent 24 years as an analog circuit designer at Maxim Integrated Products. After two decades in the same field, she sought a new direction and found the role of SHS registrar a perfect fit.

Her technical experience has made the transition to her new role smooth. “The registrar position is somewhat similar to my previous job because it involves managing a lot of data,” Hsu explained. “As an analog circuit designer, data analysis was a big part of my job.”

Her familiarity with the school, where her two children—now in graduate school—were active in the orchestra and robotics programs, also facilitated her transition. This connection made taking on a formal role at SHS a natural next step.

Hsu has been pleased with the warm reception from students and faculty, particularly noting the kindness of the office staff. “I appreciate how personal SHS is; everyone knows everyone,” Hsu said. “It’s a small, intimate community that’s hard to find elsewhere. I’m really excited to be a part of it.”
