Maya Rudolph to Reprise Emmy-Winning Role in ‘SNL’ 50th Season

Maya Rudolph is set to return to NBC’s iconic sketch show, “Saturday Night Live,” for its milestone 50th season, bringing back her acclaimed portrayal of Vice President Kamala Harris.

According to Deadline, Rudolph, a beloved former cast member of SNL, will make multiple appearances in the show's upcoming season leading up to the November presidential election. This news comes in the wake of President Joe Biden's recent announcement on July 21 that he will not run for reelection and has endorsed Harris as the Democratic presidential nominee. The announcement has sparked excitement among fans who have eagerly anticipated Rudolph’s return to her famous Harris impersonation.

Deadline also notes that Harris will be taking a brief hiatus from her role on the Apple TV+ series “Loot” to participate in several SNL episodes. The production of “Loot,” which was scheduled to begin filming its third season on August 26, has been delayed due to these scheduling conflicts.

In recent political developments, Democratic National Committee Chair Jaime Harrison revealed on August 2 that Harris has secured enough delegate votes to clinch the Democratic presidential nomination. The official results are expected to be announced on August 5, following the closure of the virtual voting process for the Democratic National Convention.

Harris has also received notable endorsements, including one from former President Jimmy Carter, who is eagerly awaiting his 100th birthday and hopes to cast his ballot for Harris, as shared by his grandson on Saturday.

As Harris finalizes her choice for a running mate, she is reportedly conducting in-person interviews with top contenders, including Minnesota Governor Tim Walz, Pennsylvania Governor Josh Shapiro, and Arizona Senator Mark Kelly.
