Harris vs. Trump 2024 Poll: Harris Maintains Lead Despite Narrowing Margin

A recent Morning Consult poll reveals that Vice President Kamala Harris continues to lead former President Donald Trump in the 2024 presidential race, though her margin has slightly decreased. The survey, conducted from August 9 to 11, shows Harris at 47% and Trump at 44%. This represents a narrow drop from Harris's previous 4-point lead recorded last week.

The current poll figures align closely with the national averages tracked by FiveThirtyEight.com, which shows Harris at 46.1% and Trump at 43.4%. Since Morning Consult began tracking the race after President Joe Biden's withdrawal in late July, Harris has consistently maintained her lead.

Both candidates retain strong support from their respective party bases, with 90% of Democrats backing Harris and an equal percentage of Republicans supporting Trump. Harris enjoys significant backing from younger voters, with 48% of those aged 18-34 supporting her, compared to 41% for Trump. Additionally, Harris garners overwhelming support from Black voters, receiving 73% compared to Trump's 18%.

Regarding approval ratings, 49% of respondents view Harris favorably, while 47% have an unfavorable opinion, resulting in a net positive rating of 2 percentage points. Conversely, Trump has a net negative rating of 10 percentage points, with 44% approval and 54% disapproval.

The poll also highlights key voter concerns: 78% of respondents consider the economy as the most critical issue in their voting decision, followed by national security (70%), and issues like jobs, healthcare, taxes, Social Security, and Medicare, each at 68%.

The Morning Consult poll surveyed 11,778 registered U.S. voters and has a margin of error of ±1 percentage point.
