At the NCAA Press Conference, Bruce Pearl claims that God inspired him to support American hostages.
Bruce Pearl, the coach of Auburn basketball, had not intended to demand the release of Eden Alexander, the only American hostage believed to be alive in Gaza, during his press conference during the NCAA tournament. However, he claims that divine intervention caused him to reconsider.

Pearl stated on Fox News, "I had an epiphany while I was strolling with my teammates and giving thanks to God for our benefits." "Remember where you came from," he said to me. Take advantage of this chance.
In light of the continuing conflict in Gaza, Pearl, who is Jewish, has made no secret of his support for Israel. He began his news conference after Auburn's Saturday Sweet 16 berth by calling for greater attention to Alexander's predicament.
"Eden Alexander remains in captivity in Gaza." a hostage from America. Pearl added, "And not enough people in this country know his name."
Of the 59 hostages left in Gaza, Alexander, a 21-year-old Israeli-American soldier, is thought to be dead. He and the bodies of four other prisoners were reportedly provided by Hamas in exchange for Israel's renewed commitment to a stalled peace deal.
Pearl told his players about his choice in advance, and they were totally in favor of it. He also called American pro-Palestinian demonstrations "heartbreaking for Israelis."
