Former Crimson Tide Star Trent Richardson Joins Hoover Football Staff
Trent Richardson, the celebrated former Alabama running back, has officially joined the Hoover High School football staff, as announced by the program on Tuesday afternoon.
Richardson will take on the role of running backs coach, confirmed Hoover head coach Drew Gilmer. Although Richardson has been volunteering with the team for several weeks, his position was recently formalized following board approval.
Gilmer shared that Richardson's interest in coaching at Hoover came to light through mutual acquaintances, prompting Gilmer to reach out about the opportunity.
"We started talking, and it was clear he wanted to get involved," Gilmer said. "We're thrilled to have him. His experience and knowledge from playing at the highest level are invaluable. Bringing in men of such high character is always a positive influence on our kids."
Richardson's illustrious career includes leading Alabama to two BCS national championships in 2009 and 2011. In 2011, he was named SEC Offensive Player of the Year and received the prestigious Doak Walker Award. The Cleveland Browns selected him as the third overall pick in the 2012 NFL Draft.
"Trent brings significant clout and experience," Gilmer added. "His character and commitment to helping these young men prepare for the next level are what set him apart. His impact on our staff has already been tremendous, and we’re lucky to have him."
Last season, Hoover concluded with a 5-7 record, advancing to the second round of the Class 7A playoffs before losing to Hewitt-Trussville.
Gilmer, who previously spent seven seasons as head coach at Clay-Chalkville, led his former team to two Class 6A titles, demonstrating a consistent track record of success.
