Alabama Coaches Praise Freshman Ryan Williams' Explosive Start
Discover how Alabama's coaching staff is praising freshman receiver Ryan Williams for his explosive performance in preseason camp.
The excitement around Ryan Williams is steadily growing. This freshman receiver, who should still be in high school for the fall of 2024, has already made a significant impact during Alabama's preseason camp.
"He's very explosive and he tracks the ball really well," said Alabama's offensive coordinator Nick Sheridan on Saturday. "Those are the two things that really stand out."
Williams is just three practices into his Alabama career, with only one in shoulder pads, having joined the Crimson Tide this summer. Despite this, he's already caught the eye of the coaching staff.
JaMarcus Shephard, Alabama's assistant head coach, co-offensive coordinator, and wide receivers coach, noted that Williams responds exceptionally well to coaching.
"You can coach that kid any way you want to, and he responds at a high level," Shephard remarked.
Sheridan also praised both the coaches working with Williams and the player's own dedication and hard work.
Although Williams is only a freshman, he has already overcome one of the early challenges.
"I think the hardest thing for a freshman wide receiver is just getting lined up properly," Sheridan explained. "That's never been an issue for him. He's been spot on with recognizing communication, whether it's signals or in the huddle, and lining up correctly with all the formations, motions, and shifts we do."
Williams is competing for playing time in a receiver lineup that lost three starters from last season. While he might not start immediately or see significant playing time due to his youth and inexperience, it's evident that his future with Alabama football is promising.
