Fire breaks out at Google building in Mountain View, estimated $200K in damages
(KRON) — A fire at a Google building in Mountain View caused significant damage on Tuesday, according to the Mountain View Fire Department. Twenty-five employees had already evacuated the building on their own before firefighters arrived.
The MVFD received a report at 5:18 p.m. about a blaze in an electrical room at 2081 Stierlin Court. KRON4 has confirmed that this two-story office building is owned by Google.
Firefighters arrived to find smoke emanating from a computer lab and a sprinkler system actively dousing the area. They managed to clear the water and smoke while taking precautions to protect the electronic equipment. Despite their efforts, the fire resulted in an estimated $200,000 in damage, as reported by MVFD.
Crews identified the cause of the fire as an electrical component that overheated while left unattended on a workbench. The fire department has ruled it accidental.
“The building has been handed back to management for arrangements to restore the facility,” the MVFD stated.
KRON4 has contacted Google for comment on the incident and is currently awaiting a response.
