Elon Musk is giving away $1 million a day to swing state voters: Is that legal?

Elon Musk held a town hall event in McKees Rocks, Pennsylvania, on Sunday, urging residents to vote for Donald Trump while addressing a range of political questions. The event was part of Musk's newly formed America PAC's statewide tour to support Trump ahead of the 2024 election.

Musk, the CEO of Tesla and SpaceX, has promised to give $1 million to one registered voter in a swing state daily, provided they sign a petition backing the First and Second Amendments, which he claims are under attack. During the event, Kristine Fishell was the winner of this giveaway, thanking Musk for his efforts to "save speech."

Experts have raised concerns that Musk's giveaway may violate Federal Election Commission laws, especially given his requirement for attendees to sign his petition to enter. The atmosphere at the event was chaotic, with supporters and cars covered in pro-Trump messages filling the streets, while inside, the venue reached standing-room-only capacity.

Musk’s speech was unscripted and reminiscent of Trump's style, as he emphasized the high stakes of the upcoming election. He called for voting on a single day with paper ballots, expressing concerns about the security of voting machines. He also discussed his newfound support for Trump, attributing it to his views on the political left, which he described as "intolerant."

Over two hours, Musk fielded questions from attendees, addressing various topics, including the importance of family and his thoughts on abortion. He emphasized the joy of having children, stating, “Having a child will make you happier than anything else in your life.” Musk also proposed a government efficiency commission aimed at tax cuts and reduced spending.
