Early Goal Holds Up at Fullerton
FULLERTON, Calif. – Redshirt junior Andrea Kitahata scored in the third minute for the third consecutive match, leading No. 2 Stanford (4-0) to a 1-0 victory over Cal State Fullerton (2-1) on Sunday at Titan Stadium.
Kitahata raced to a loose ball near the penalty spot, deftly maneuvered it to her left, then back to her right before placing a shot into the upper-right corner of the net for the decisive goal.
Hailing from Hillsborough, Calif., Kitahata has now amassed eight points this season. She becomes the first Cardinal to score in three straight games since Maya Doms did so in the final three matches of 2023.
Stanford outshot Cal State Fullerton 27-5, forcing Titans’ goalkeeper Mia Ranson to make 13 saves. Kitahata recorded seven shots, with four on target, while sophomore Mia Bhuta had five of her six shots on goal.
Cal State Fullerton did not manage a shot on target as Haley Craig registered her second shutout of the season, also contributing to one combined shutout this year.
Stanford will return home for a matchup against former Pac-12 rival Washington State on Sunday at 1 p.m. The game will be streamed on ACC Network Extra.
