A CNN panel had a heated exchange on Tuesday when senior political commentator Scott Jennings brought up allegations of mistreatment of women by second gentleman Doug Emhoff.
The discussion centered on rapper Eminem's sharp criticisms of Republican nominee Donald Trump during a rally in Detroit, where he shared the stage with former President Barack Obama. Jennings pointed out that Eminem has used derogatory language toward women and has even been accused of promoting domestic violence, yet the public continues to scrutinize Trump for his alleged behavior toward women.
“I think this Eminem situation is worth discussing. Everything that’s said about Donald Trump and his treatment of women, yet we have this rapper—who, I admit, has sold a lot of records—who has made comments promoting domestic violence against women,” Jennings stated, prompting commentator Bakari Sellers to interrupt. “No, no, Bakari, I listened to your entire filibuster; just give me 13 seconds.”
Jennings then highlighted allegations against Doug Emhoff, mentioning accusations of him slapping his ex-girlfriend, making “misogynistic” and “sexist” remarks to former female staffers, and even impregnating his nanny while still married to his first wife, Kirsten. Sellers interrupted again, calling Jennings' statements “B.S.,” while CNN host Abby Phillips incorrectly claimed that Trump had been found liable for rape.
“So when you consider the things Eminem has said to sell his records, and also think about the questions surrounding Harris’ own husband in this context,” Jennings continued, only to be interrupted once more.
