On October 17, the Biden-Harris administration released data indicating that its initiative to electrify everything may increase costs for American households, challenging a central argument of its green agenda, according to experts cited by the Daily Caller News Foundation.
The administration has focused on reducing residential fossil fuel use as a key part of its environmental strategy, claiming that electrification would lead to lower energy costs. However, recent data from the Department of Energy reveals that in 2024, electricity was approximately four times more expensive than natural gas. Experts argue that this electrification push represents an extreme climate policy that negatively impacts everyday Americans.
“The Department of Energy has consistently demonstrated that natural gas is a far cheaper energy option for households than electricity,” said Daren Bakst, director of the Competitive Enterprise Institute’s Center for Energy and Environment, in an interview with the DCNF. “Government policies aimed at restricting natural gas in favor of electricity will lead to significantly higher prices, making home heating and appliance use unnecessarily costly. Low-income households will be hit hardest, as they allocate a larger portion of their income to basic needs like staying warm in winter compared to higher-income households.”
