Alabama Woman Fatally Attacked by Dog; Family Member Euthanizes Pet
In a tragic incident in Alabama, a woman lost her life after being attacked by her dog inside its pen.
Tuscaloosa County sheriff's deputies responded to the distress call about the dog attack at around 9:30 p.m. on Thursday. The incident occurred near the Berry community in the northern part of the county, according to Tuscaloosa County Violent Crimes Capt. Marty Sellers.
Upon arrival, deputies found the 62-year-old woman deceased inside the dog pen. Her identity has not been disclosed.
Capt. Sellers reported that the victim’s husband had tried to contact her but was unable to reach her. He then asked another family member to check on her, which led to the grim discovery.
When this unidentified family member entered the pen, the dog attacked him as well.
"He was forced to put the dog down," Capt. Sellers stated.
Authorities mentioned that the dog was a large breed, though they were unsure of the exact breed.
"The family had never had issues with it before," Sellers noted.
