In a significant crackdown on illegal gambling, Alabama Attorney General Steve Marshall has secured temporary restraining orders (TROs) against five gambling establishments in Selma. This decisive action was taken to halt operations at the facilities, which are accused of operating in blatant violation of Alabama's strict anti-gambling laws.
The TROs, granted by Dallas County Circuit Judge Don McMillan, affect the following locations: Joker 777 on East Highland Avenue, Mini Bingo on Dallas Avenue (housed in the former Big Star Groceries building), Selma Charity Bingo on Highway 14 East, Selma Bingo on Hickory Road, and Lucky Duck on Highway 80 West. The court's orders require these establishments to immediately cease all activities, including any financial transactions, until further legal notice.
In addition to the TROs, Marshall's office executed six search warrants at these gambling halls as part of an ongoing criminal investigation. One such warrant was served at an address on Lewis Street. According to court documents, these locations were found to contain numerous illegal gambling devices, including slot machines. Notably, 24 slot machines were discovered at the Mini Bingo facility.
Marshall received support in this operation from the Alabama Law Enforcement Agency, the Dallas County Sheriff’s Office, and the Dallas County District Attorney’s Office. Their combined efforts reflect a determined stance against illegal gambling in the state.
In a press release, Attorney General Marshall underscored the illegality of gambling in Alabama, stating, "These facilities are operating with complete disregard for Alabama law. I commend Dallas County Sheriff Mike Granthum for his dedication to eradicating this blight and for inviting our team to aid in addressing these criminal enterprises."
