Brandy Williams is named Madison's permanent fire chief.

Williams, who has been acting as temporary fire chief since February, takes up the permanent position after David Bailey, who has been in that position since 2017, resigned.

Brandy Williams is named Madison's permanent fire chief.

Williams' appointment, which takes effect immediately, is a momentous occasion for Madison Fire & Rescue and her. Williams joined the department in 1998 and has been a consistent and committed member for more than 20 years. Her dedication to the agency and the community has been praised by both city officials and coworkers.

Williams' lengthy tenure was emphasized by Councilor Teddy Powell, who said, "You have earned it by being here for a long time. People who have worked with you for years have sent me a lot of emails, and it is obvious how much they admire you." Her unanimous ratification by the council was certainly influenced by her years of service and commitment to the Madison community.

One of the important factors taken into account when selecting the next fire chief, according to Mayor Paul Finley, was making sure the new head will be a long-term employee of the department. "The fire department's culture is very important, and Brandy has gained her team's confidence and support. We are selecting a leader with a clear future strategy, not just a symbolic figurehead," he stated.

After the vote, Williams, who has gained respect in the department and throughout the community, said she was hopeful about the future. "We have a strategy for the future, and I am determined to improve on it every day," she said. "Together, we will keep becoming better and getting better every day."

It became clear that this was more than just a formal appointment as council members and fire department employees cheered, acknowledging years of leadership, hard work, and an unflinching commitment to the city of Madison.
Williams' new position, which reflects the significant responsibilities that come with heading one of the city's most vital public safety departments, pays $169,267. Madison Fire and Rescue will resume operations under her direction with a fresh sense of purpose and resolve.
