A tragic morning crash on U.S. 231 claims the life of a St. Clair County motorcycle rider.
When a local man died in a horrific collision along U.S. Highway 231 just north of Pell City, a calm Monday morning in St. Clair County took a tragic turn.

The event happened around a mile outside the city boundaries at 6:19 a.m., according to the Alabama Law Enforcement Agency. The sad sequence of events occurred as Ragland resident Randall Foster, 35, was riding a Harley-Davidson motorcycle. ALEA Senior Trooper Vu Quang said that Foster was violently flung from the seat after losing control of the bike.
A Peterbilt garbage truck heading in the other direction struck Foster, killing him in the frantic seconds that followed. Steele resident Jeremiah B. Harris, 36, was the driver of the truck. There was nothing the motorist could do in that instant, despite what we can only assume was a quick and frantic attempt to escape the crash.
This was not just another statistic about crashes. Randall Foster was a son, possibly a friend, and possibly even a father. His life story was tragically cut short in the early hours of the morning.
The ramifications of this tragedy are really getting started as investigators try to put together the specifics. This kind of morning serves as a reminder of how brittle our routines are and how the banal may suddenly become spectacular in the most terrible way.
Though they frequently occur in an instant, motorcycle accidents—especially those involving larger vehicles like trucks—leave a lasting impact on the families involved. Authorities are still looking into the crash's circumstances, and no new information has been made public as of yet.
Our thoughts and prayers are with Randall Foster's family and everyone impacted by this terrible incident.
