Tragic Events Twice: Following a father's death in a U.S. steel accident, the community rallies around four children

A Typical Change Turns When the tragedy happened on Monday, Fatal Townsend, a local resident of the Bessemer area, was working late. At the U.S. Steel factory, Townsend was on a railcar when it collided with another vehicle, according to the Jefferson County Coroner's Office. He suffered significant blunt-force injuries in the impact, and shortly after 11 p.m., he was declared dead despite being taken to Princeton Baptist Medical Center.

The Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA), the National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB), and U.S. Steel are all investigating the occurrence and analyzing the facts. Additional information has not yet been made public.

Less than a year after his wife's illness-related death, Michael passed away, leaving their four children—three daughters and a son—parentless. The heartache is incalculable.

Shortly after losing his wife a year ago, Michael's life was abruptly snatched. The four children they left behind will be immediately covered by this money until everything is resolved.
