Nicole Kidman’s mother, Janelle Ann Kidman, has passed away at the age of 84, as announced by Kidman on Saturday.

In a statement delivered at the Venice Film Festival, where Kidman was being honored for her role in *Babygirl*, she expressed her profound grief. “I’m in shock and need to be with my family, but this award is dedicated to her. She shaped me, guided me, and made me who I am. I am deeply grateful to honor her name through this recognition,” Kidman, 57, said. “The intersection of life and art is heartbreaking, and my heart is broken.”

Halina Reijn, the director of *Babygirl*, accepted the award on Kidman’s behalf. “We love you all, Nicole,” Reijn said after reading Kidman’s statement.

Janelle Ann Kidman was a nursing instructor and an active member of the Women’s Electoral Lobby, an Australian feminist organization. The cause of her death has not been revealed.

Nicole Kidman’s father, Antony, passed away in 2014. She has a sister, Antonia, who is a journalist.
