Independence High School valedictorian: Audrey Melendez

**BAKERSFIELD, Calif. (KGET)** — As graduation season arrives, 17 News Sunrise is honoring Audrey Melendez, the valedictorian of Independence High School, for her achievements and future plans.

“I know it will really hit me on Thursday when everyone is giving their speeches and I see all my friends graduating,” Melendez reflects as she anticipates her high school graduation. Next, she will head to UCLA to pursue a degree in biochemistry.

Being at the top of her class has required tremendous effort, and Melendez has a motivational message for students at all levels.

“To those in elementary, middle, and high school, I encourage you to persevere,” Melendez says. “Even when you face setbacks, don’t give up. Keep chasing your dreams.”
