**Opportunity for Post-JD Scholars**

The Hoover Institution at Stanford University is inviting applications for a Research Fellow position focused on free speech law. This opportunity is ideal for an early-career legal scholar preparing for an academic career in law or related fields.

**Position Details:**

- **Role:** Research Fellow with the Center for Free Expression

- **Duration:** One year, from July 2025 through June 2026, with a potential extension of an additional year, subject to mutual agreement.

- **Location:** Hoover Institution, Stanford University

- **Full-time Commitment:** Required, with no competing major professional commitments.

- **Expectations:** Engage in independent research under the supervision of Senior Fellow Eugene Volokh, participate in organizing and attending conferences, workshops, and lectures, and collaborate on projects related to free speech law.

**Eligibility Criteria:**

- **JD or Equivalent:** Must be obtained by June 2025.

- **Commitment:** At least one year (July 2025 - June 2026), with flexibility for slight adjustments if affected by a judicial clerkship.

- **Judicial Clerkship:** Not required but advantageous.

- **Legal Work Experience:** Not required but considered a plus.

- **PhD:** Not required but accepted.

- **Research:** Must have a publishable law journal article (completed or near completion) from law school or shortly after. The topic does not have to be on free speech law.

- **Research Focus:** Must plan to work on free speech law broadly, including First Amendment law, federal and state statutes, common law, international legal provisions, and related areas.

- **Research Article:** At least one published or near-published article.

- **Additional Articles:** Any other relevant articles, whether published or in draft form.

- **References:** Contact information for three professors or legal scholars who can attest to your intellectual abilities, writing skills, or research agenda.

**Compensation:**

- **Salary:** $80,000 - $125,000, with full Stanford benefits. Housing and relocation allowances may be provided based on individual circumstances.
