Elon Musk asked to pull fake video of Haitian immigrant voting multiple times in Georgia
Georgia Secretary of State Brad Raffensperger called on Elon Musk Thursday to remove a misleading video from X, formerly known as Twitter. The video falsely depicts a Haitian immigrant voting multiple times with various forms of identification.
Raffensperger labeled the video as “false” and an example of targeted disinformation that has plagued recent elections. He stated that Georgia election security officials are collaborating with federal authorities to trace the origin of the “obviously fake” footage, suggesting it may have been produced by Russian troll farms.
As of late Thursday night, Musk had not publicly responded to either the video or Raffensperger’s request.
Haitian immigrants have been in the national spotlight since former President Donald Trump made a false claim during a debate with Vice President Kamala Harris, alleging that migrants in Springfield, Ohio were eating pets.
In Alabama, communities of Haitian immigrants have faced scrutiny amid online rumors and heated discussions at city council meetings.
Raffensperger urged Americans to resist allowing “foreign interference” to “sow discord and chaos” before the upcoming election. “As Americans, we cannot let our enemies use lies to divide us and undermine our faith in our institutions—or in each other,” he emphasized.
