Robert “Rob” Carter, the head football coach at Clarke County High School, was taken into custody on Friday in Niceville, Florida. According to Clarke County Sheriff DeWayne Smith, Carter is currently awaiting extradition to Alabama.
While the specific details of the charges remain undisclosed, Sheriff Smith stated that the warrants will be executed upon Carter’s return to Alabama. “The process of extradition can move quickly, but it also may take some time,” Smith explained.
For now, Carter is being held in Florida under a fugitive from justice warrant. Law enforcement officials confirmed that the charges would become public once he is formally served with the warrants.
Carter has been with Clarke County for two seasons, leading the team to an 8-4 record in the 2024 season and a second-round playoff appearance in Class 2A. He previously served as the head coach at Beauregard High School from 2014 to 2020, where he guided the team to a Class 5A state championship in 2016. Carter also coached at Sylacauga High School in 2021 and 2022.
Over the course of his 12-year coaching career, Carter has accumulated a 73-51 overall record, with a 12-7 playoff record.
Authorities have not yet disclosed further details about the charges, but more information is expected once Carter is extradited to Alabama.
