Campbell: Pair Arrested On Suspicion Of Multiple Crimes Stemming From Kohl's Theft
Two people were arrested in Campbell on suspicion of multiple crimes allegedly resulting from attempting to remove security sensors from merchandise at a clothing store, police said Friday.
On Tuesday at about 3:15 p.m., officers responded to the Kohl's on E. Hamilton Avenue on a report of a theft in progress.
A man and a woman were observed leaving the store and allegedly attempted to get into a stolen vehicle. As officers arrived, the pair fled on foot into a nearby neighborhood.
The woman, San Jose resident Mary Jo Devera, 48, was located down the street from Kohl's and arrested. The man, Sunnyvale resident KC Vernon Pries, 38, was found hiding on a residential rooftop with the help of a police drone.
Police believe the car used by the pair was stolen out of San Jose and had been given "cold plates," or replaced with someone else's license plates.
A search of the car allegedly uncovered stolen property, burglary tools and drug paraphernalia.
Police said both Pries--who was out on parole-- and Devera have "extensive" criminal histories of felonies, with Pries being arrested over 25 times since 2004.
Both suspects were booked into jail on suspicion of resisting arrest, conspiracy to commit a crime, retail theft, vehicle theft, and possession of burglary tools, stolen personal identification, and drug paraphernalia.
Pries is being held without bail.
