Black Bear Cub Spotted in Tuscaloosa: City Leader Urges Vigilance for Pet Safety

Tuscaloosa residents are being advised to remain cautious following the sighting of a black bear cub in the city. On August 2, Tuscaloosa City Council President Kip Tyner shared a post on Facebook featuring an image captured by a garage camera in the Oak Chase neighborhood, showing the young bear.

According to Tyner, this sighting could mark the first confirmed presence of a black bear in Tuscaloosa, as noted by the Alabama Wildlife Department. He emphasized the importance of monitoring outdoor pets, given the potential risk posed by the bear.

Tyner reassured residents that state wildlife professionals are equipped to manage the situation effectively, but he urged those living near the Oak Chase area to remain vigilant, especially concerning their pets.
