The Arrest of the Viral Mascot: What Actually Happened

In front of shocked families and kids, Jermell Jones, dressed as none other than Chuck E. himself, was arrested on July 3 in Tallahassee, Florida. Jones was wanted on three felony credit card fraud charges, according to the police, because of a stolen debit card complaint that had been submitted weeks prior.

Before making the arrest, police said they had planned to take Jones outside. 

According to police spokesman Alicia Hill, "he instantly tightened up and fought as they approached him." "They decided to put him in handcuffs at that time, considering everyone's safety, including Chuck E.'s."

Officers said, "Chuck E, come with me," according to witnesses, before capturing the mascot. Photos of Jones without his mask and holding the giant rodent head on a police squad car appeared shortly after. To put it mildly, it was a bizarre sight.

Too Far of a Card Swipe?

When a lady discovered questionable expenditures on her child support Visa debit card, including purchases at a grocery store, a Whataburger, and a smoke shop, the inquiry got underway. Since her trip to Chuck E. 

Cheese in late June, she had not seen the card.

Because Jones had access to the register and client payment information, authorities were able to trace the behavior back to him. What began as a family-friendly pizza and award day devolved into an odd headline that nobody anticipated.

With a one-line roast that had social media in stitches, Dave & Buster's quicly took advantage of the situation, while Chuck E. 

Fans were aware of the irony: one business thrived on pizza and nostalgic birthday celebrations, while another focused on adult arcade evenings. Now, both businesses are embroiled in a public dispute over a controversy that is reminiscent of the 2020s.
