New Polling Insights: Harris vs. Trump After Biden's Exit

With President Joe Biden stepping out of the 2024 presidential race and endorsing Kamala Harris as his successor, the stage is set for a potential November showdown between Harris and Republican candidate Donald Trump.

Recent polls conducted before Biden's withdrawal offer a glimpse into how Harris might fare against Trump if she becomes the Democratic nominee.

The most recent poll by YouGov and CBS News, taken from July 16-18, reveals Trump currently holds a slim 3-point advantage over Harris, leading 51% to 48%. This survey was conducted amid increasing pressure on Biden regarding his health and the state of his campaign. Prior to Biden's exit, the same poll showed Trump with a 5-point lead over Biden.

In the same YouGov poll, Trump outpaced Harris by a notable margin—37% to 26%—when voters were asked who would better advocate for the average citizen.

The YouGov poll included 2,247 registered voters and has a margin of error of ±2.7%.

Other surveys present a broader lead for Trump. For instance, a SoCal Research poll, sponsored by On Point Politics and conducted online on July 17 with 800 registered voters, shows Trump leading Harris by 8 percentage points. This poll also indicates Trump had a 6-point advantage over Biden. The margin of error for this poll is ±3.5%.

According to the national average from 538.com, Trump is currently polling at 43.5%, while Biden stands at 40.2%. Independent candidate Robert F. Kennedy Jr. is polling at 8.7%.
